William M. McLaughlin manuscripts, 1942-1943.

This collection consists of a speech ("Old Fort Des Moines") delivered by McLaughlin to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the city of Des Moines at various events sponsored by the Des Moines Pioneer Club along with an outline for a speech delivered to the club in 1942 called "Des Moines during the decade, 1870-1880."

Des Moines attorney. McLaughlin was boring in Hamilton County, Iowa, graduated from the Drake Law School in 1899 and practiced law in Des Moines for most of his professional career. He held the post of assistant city solicitor for Des Moines and general attorney for Southern Surety Company. At the time of his death he was serving as president of the Des Moines Pioneer Club.
